1960 39' Sparkman & Stephens Yawl "Querencia" $89,000:

A stunning example of this legendary design, "Querencia" is a sister-ship to the famed "Finisterre", three-time winner of the Bermuda to Newport race.   From the drafting board of Sparkman & Stephens Design # 1054, "Querencia" was built in 1960 and underwent an 18 month restoration from the keel up in 2002.

The 2002 refit was completed by the current owner, a knowledgeable yachtsman, using a hand-picked team of local craftsmen lead by professional shipwright Ed Lamberson and included: new teak covering boards, decks, toe rails and cockpit coamings; a new housetop of Yellow Cedar and canvas; stripping of the hull to bare wood inside and out; refinishing of the hull; reconfiguration of the existing cabinetry and complementing of the same with new Yellow Cedar countertops and ceilings;  a complete up to date Raymarine electronics system was installed and includes radar, chart plotter, sonar, autopilot and VHF;  new sails and sail cover from Schauttauer Sails, Inc. of Seattle; a 40 horsepower Yanmar diesel engine was installed; custom designed panels from Mesolini Glass Studio of Bainbridge Island in the galley and companionway;  leather seat cushions for the main salon;  ultra suede mattress covers;  cabin lights and hardware imported from England.  Her hull is constructed of 1-1/8" teak planks over Yakel frames fastened in bronze. Her floor grid, centerboard, centerboard trunk, and the mast step are bronze.  Spars are Port Orford Cedar and Sitka Spruce.

Throughout this extensive refit,  every effort was made to maintain the integrity of "Querencia's" traditional pedigree.  In 2004 she was re-christened and launched in Port Townsend, Washington.

Since her restoration, "Querencia" has been lovingly and meticulously maintained while being regularly sailed; competing in numerous Swiftsure regattas and wooden boat festivals.  She has been Best in Show twice at the Victoria B.C. wooden boat festival.

"Querencia" is a sublime blend of form and function, maintained in Bristol condition and a rare gem in today's marketplace.
